Juicy Ladies

Hello lovely BB readers!

Yesterday was a really good day…I mean especially for a MONDAY!

I had a client in the morning and then headed to Calabasas for a photoshoot/interview with Bellus Magazine!  I can’t wait to share once it’s live & ready for you to see!

On my way home, I was feeling hungry.  The thing is, I already had a mini lunch, but it was an earlier lunch than usual and some days, I just need more food!  Yesterday was one of those days…

I remembered a great place I had been wanting to try for a long time.  Only thing is, I rarely make it that far in the valley, so I thought, “This is my chance!”

Juicy Ladies, as if the name wasn’t enough to catch your eye, has some of the most delicious vegan food in L.A.

They have a wide selection of prepared food, drinks, smoothies, wraps, salads, sandwiches…..Wheatgrass shots…Can we say anymore?

I usually make and eat lunch at home, but if and when I eat out, all I crave is something super healthy and filling.

THIS HUMMUS AVOCADO WRAP WAS PERFECT!

Seriously, the perfect second lunch to give me fuel for my last client and yoga booty ballet class of the day!

I only wish Juicy Ladies was closer to me!!!   But I know where I’ll be going next time I’m in the valley…

See you real soon Juicy Ladies!

Weekend Things

image

HAPPY MONDAY!

Hope you all had a great weekend…

I did!  I worked, relaxed, got to go out… Got it all in.

image

Saturday morning started out with a little yoga sess.  I had been wanting to try my friend Erika’s class at Corepower Yoga for a while so I finally went and loved it.  Hot Yoga is a whole other type of HOT, but I enjoyed it and brought me back to my hot yoga taught classes that I used to teach “back in the day”.  Haha, I love saying that…Makes me sound sooo old. :)

I then stopped for a quick juice pick-me-up at Clover Juice.

image

image

After the class and the juice, I came home to shower and went to get my nails done…

Ready for a night out in Venice!

We went to watch the sunset at one of my favorite spots in LA, Hotel Erwin.

image

Good friends, good view…Alllll good.

image

Oh yes and a good drink, of course.  “The Summer Crush” was the perfect refreshing, delicious and sunset drink.

We then headed to one of my favorite taco spots in LA, James Beach.

image

Yes, this is the sames James Beach from the movie “I Love You Man”.

The tacos come prepared like this…

image

You make them yourself, which is fun and also makes it a little healthier when you have control of what’s going into them.

SO good!

image

Definitely a fun Saturday!

image

Sunday I woke up early to go teach a class at Athelta!  Athleta is owned by Gap.  I was asked by my studio to come teach their yoga community and was happy to do so!  Met some great people and loved teaching there.

image

I had to rush to my next clients.  These ladies worked their butts off..

image

And then for the last class of the day, snapped this photo of me after teaching a group of yogis at Swerve.

Even though I was pretty exhausted after a long Sunday, I was still smiling.  I actually had a few clients and students come up to me to express their love of my class.  I get compliments, but for some reason, that day it was on another level.  As much as we love what we do, it is such a treat to receive compliments and appreciation for your work.  I was humbled and grateful for them.  My students really make me smile every single day.

After the class, I came home to prepare for an in-home massage!  What a treat!  I had been contacted by the manager of Zeel.com to see if I was interested in getting a complimentary massage to check out their new app.  Of course!  As a yoga instructor, I need to stay on top of my wellbeing/massages.

I booked the massage just an hour before and the sweet lady, Michelle, was there when I booked it for.  Pretty cool.  She brought music, a massage table, massage oils…All I had to do was lay there and enjoy!

Such a cool app and I’m so happy I got to try it!

After, I basically couch potatoed it out the rest of the night.  Ty made us a healthy dinner and we watched a little Miss America and Californication - my new favorite show!  Slightly obsessed…

..Feeling rejuvenated and ready for my week!

Wishing you all a wonderful week! ♥

Easy Ice Cream At Home: The Dessert Bullet

image

Guys - Meet Dessert Bullet.  Dessert Bullet, meet my friends here at The Beauty Blender.

image

This just might be one of the best inventions…EVER.

I recently found The Dessert Bullet and I am so glad I did.  As we know, I am an Ice Cream Addict….Quite possible THE ICE CREAM ADDICT.

Here’s a little look into my ice cream adventures…

HOW do I have this many pictures of me with ICE CREAM????

We real tiiight.  :)

Yes, I hate to admit it, being the healthy yoga teacher I am - hashtagging: #eatclean #healthyeating in most of my Instagram pictures, but I believe this is why I eat so healthy 80% of the time…so I can enjoy my ice cream.

However, since I recently found The Dessert Bullet, I CAN totally use those hashtags AND eat my “Ice Cream” too!

image

So listen, it’s this simple:

Ingredients:

ANY FROZEN FRUIT OF YOUR CHOICE (My favorite: Mango!)

Optional: The frozen fruit (best to soak before frozen) can be soaked in orange juice if you would like - makes it sweeter and a better texture, but not necessary!  OR try coconut milk or almond milk for a creamier texture.

Directions:

Take fruit out of freezer and thaw for 10 minutes.

Place in Dessert Bullet, press button and voila!!  ICE CREAM AT HOME!

And of course, you can still eat this…

image

Because you will absolutely crave it and deserve it once or twice a week…

BUT you can get creative with The Dessert Bullet and it is pretty darn good and close to ice cream!  I mean hey, if you want to get reallllll crazzzzzy…hint hint: Add in some OREOS! :)  I recently tried mixing Banana, Peanut Butter & Chocolate Chips…and it was gooood.

It’s almost too easy to buy…Now offered on Amazon Prime!  (I love me some Amazon Prime!).

Just giving you a “healthier” option/tip for those nights where you need something sweet, but don’t want to overload on the sugar and calories!

Happy ice cream eating!

Lose Weight With Yoga

image

There is a mis-conception that yoga is not a workout!  Whoever said this, you are far from being right!

image

I’ve been practicing yoga for about 3 years now and it absolutely helps me stay in shape.  My workouts don’t JUST include yoga however, it is the main component to my weekly workout routine. ..Yoga 2-3 times a week, yoga booty ballet 2-3 times a week and boxing (or some other form of exercise) once a week.  Obviously, if you really want to lose weight it’s a good idea to push yourself and do a mix of different kinds of workouts, but yoga can be a tool to help you along the way!

image

Not that losing weight should be your primary reason to practice yoga, but it’s definitely a bonus!  Yoga calms the mind, body and soul.  Creating a place of stillness, focus, peace and a place for you to listen to your inner voice.  In our daily lives, we often run from activity to activity and our minds buzz from thought to thought, but giving yourself that one hour a day to simply just be and create stillness, does a whole lot mentally and spiritually.

As for physically, you’ll want to focus more on vigorous vinyasa, power, or ashtanga yoga classes rather than slower-paced styles such as kripalu or iyengar if you are trying to lose those extra LB-s.  These classes tend to move fast, getting your heart rate up and allowing you to burn up to 400 calories in a 90-minute class!  Trust me, you’ll walk out of class knowing you worked up a sweat and got a great workout, when you look like you just got out of the shower!

Yoga Poses For Weight Loss

Crescent Pose- Great exercise to strengthen and burn fat in your legs.  Also a great hip opener and stretch.  Gets your heart rate up, which helps speed up your metabolism. Hold for 30-60 seconds.

image

Chair Pose- Works the lower body as well as the abs and arms.  Great for toning and shaping the lower body.  Bend your knees deeply and sit back as if you were sitting back in a chair.  Bring the weight onto your heels. Tuck the pelvis forward to make sure you’re not arching your lower back/lumbar spine.  Hold for 30-60 seconds.

Forearm Plank: Great exercise for arms, abs and back.  Try and keep your back flat, in a straight line from head to heels. Tilt your pelvis forward and contract your abs to prevent your rear end from sticking up in the air or sagging in the middle. Hold for 60 seconds.

Plank with Side Leg Touch

.  .  .

image

Yoga feels damn good.

image

And burns a “few” calories along the way too…

Nothing to complain about here!

Wishing everyone a sweaty/fit day!

TOP 8 FAVORITE HEALTHY PLACES IN Los Angeles

image

I was recently invited to be a “Los Angeles City Expert” for Stay.com and was asked my eight favorite places in my home city.  That question was a difficult one!  My love for L.A. has grown every year I adventure to a new restaurant, bar or new part of town.

I have included the cafes where I go to for a green juice, the best place for an acai bowl, a healthy bistro, the most beautiful hotel in Santa Monica, and, of course, my yoga classes!

EATS:

A Votre Sante, Brentwood: Super healthy options while also having regular food options for your non-vegan friends too!

Real Food Daily, Weho or Santa Monica: Vegan goodness!  Get the “not-chos!”

FIG, Santa Monica: If you are looking for a nice dinner with organically grown and locally sourced food, go here!  The ambiance is great and located in the beautiful Fairmont Hotel.

Shutters Hotel, Santa Monica: Go here for a drink before dinner to watch the sunset and leave your worries out the door.  You will probably not want to leave this perfect beach hotel; it’s absolutely perfect!

Beverly Hills Juice Club, Los Angeles:  Great for a healthy green-juice pick me up!  Super fresh.  *Warning: Cash only!

LIQUID, Weho: Best Acai Bowls in town…I love the “Chronic Bowl”!

(Pictured Above: One of my YOGA classes at Swerve…Yogis in Savasana).

Work It Out

Swerve Studio, Weho:  Home of “YOGA BOOTY BALLET” (Yes, I just said Yoga Booty Ballet and it might just be the best cardio workout class ever!) and where I teach yoga 5-days a week!  This studio will give you an instant welcoming feel if visiting or just moving to LA.  Everyone will greet you with a smile and a great workout.  Who says skip your workout while on vacay?!

Cuccio Somatology, Los Angeles: I know how busy people can be so I love giving them yoga when it works for them, at the convenience of their own home, hotel, a park or the beach.  I love meeting new people and bringing them a little peace in their busy day.

Week/Weekend Things!

image

Happy Monday!

It is a rainy morning over here in Los Angeles and I am loving it!!  We don’t get enough gloomy days, so I’ll take it!  Since my usual morning yoga client is out of town, I am blogging to you from bed.  Lucky me!

The weekend was so great but it went by way too fast.  My sister, brother in law and niece were in town for the week and if the quote, “Time goes by while having fun…" has ever been true, then YES, time went by so fast because we were enjoying every second together

Tuesday I took this little one to my favorite ice cream shop in LA, Sweet Rose Creamery

imageimage

Alexa started waving to the cars passing by…

image

Wednesday we headed out to Laguna for a little gettaway.image

Me, my sister & Alexa checking into our hotel.

image

Straight to the pool!

image

And obviously time for a Pina Colada! ;)

image

I headed to the gym the first morning because I heard great things about it and their spa.

I ran on the treadmill for about 30 minutes…A little workout is better than no workout on vacation!

image

My breakfast (not photographed: the muffin I also had).

image

Alexa had a smoothie…

She called it “Alexa Juish” AKA Alexa’s Juice.

We then headed to the beach…

It was a little gloomy but the sun came out about an hour later…

Beach toes..!

Alexa loved the water!  She wasn’t scared at all…

Picture above: Me holding her little hand.  And how cute is her sailor shirt???  And her little pink swimming shoes?!

Pretty adorable.

Alexa with her daddy… sweet moment.

image

Snapped a photo of me and my sister.  We look alike in this picture!!

image

Met up with my mom for a morning snack…This fruit plate was quite large!  And yes, that is coffee and champagne as well…BECAUSE WHY NOT?

We got some sun all day and it was perfect.

image

We headed to dinner…Hello, Tyler!

image

The sunset during dinner was quite amazing.  That is the ocean in the distance…

image

Snapped a picture of the girls.  My mom, me, my sister & Alexa.

image

Last day: Breakfast Parfait.

We headed home after an hour of laying by the pool.  I didn’t want to leave!

But….

image

I had a class to teach!  I was happy to get back to teaching at Swerve and it was a great class full of yogis ready for their weekend.

image

We headed to dinner…Alexa, my little best friend.

They all went back to the east coast and I cried a little…A LOT.

I hate being so far away from them but at least I have my mom and dad here in LA with me.

Sunday I woke up to go teach my first yoga class of the day to my beautiful clients.  These 2 ladies work hard and definitely deserve and enjoy their Savasana outside…:)

image

After a day of teaching…We went to go see the new Woody Allen movie, Magic In The Moonlight.

image

I liked it!

We then were hungry and headed to one of our favorite restaurants, Milo & Olive!

But first, I HAD to capture this amazing sunset…

image

The pink fluffy sky had me in awe…

Monday, again. (Sigh…)

I am ready to go for it, work hard and that way, I will be ready for you again weekend in just a few days…

Favorite Quote Friday

Hello and Happy Friday!

I am in Laguna Beach enjoying time with my family this week.  It is such a treat…

This particular Maya Angelou quote always stands out to me as a goody.  ”Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”  As a yoga teacher, I always end my class with a quote or some kind of insight that I like to leave my students with to go into the rest of their day.  I love how yoga can kind of open up a whole new world for people.  A lighter, more positive world.  We can get so down on ourselves!!!  It’s crazy!  For me, at least, when I practice yoga or meditate, or just lay quietly for a few minutes, I can see and feel a light that makes everything okay.  I instantly feel calmer and more at peace.  I see my visions, my goals, my life so much more clearly.  I feel empowered.  I see myself and who I am pretty strongly.

From doing research and studying yoga, meditation and anatomy, it is clear that yoga and meditation have been proven to have this effect on people.

I mean…why would you want to live any other way?!

Here are some more quotes that get me feeling inspired and that I hold close to my heart.

Keep on dreamin’ people…and enjoy the journey while you’re getting there!

My favorite, TYCHO with Kendrick Lamar.  It’s just so good.

Attn: Yoga Teachers, Yoga As A Career

I have to say that I love my job.

To me, it is the most fulfilling thing for me in my life.

I try to take 1-2 days off a week, but I have to say, when I’m not working, I don’t feel the same!

I love teaching.  I love helping my students find inner peace or strength that they sometimes are looking for.  It is both a physical and mental practice.

I recently did a photoshoot for Millennial Magazine with photographer, Ben Lin.  Here are some photos from the shoot!

Yoga has been really meaningful to me, not just bringing me purpose (to bring yoga to others), but it helps me see things so much more clearly when I’m confused about something or something seems off.  It keeps my body strong and lean along the way too.  A day without practicing, feels just plain odd…

Happy yoga-ing.
